Senator Thomas Walker Huey

HUEY, Thomas Walker, Senator from Lancaster District- Born November 27, 1798, in Jacksonham, near North Carolina line, the son of James Huey, who came from Ireland, and Jane Walker. Attended school at Tirzah Presbyterian Church, Union County, N. C. Planter and merchant in Jacksonham community; partner in sawmill operation in Alabama and in Mississippi. Married first, Martha Linn McMurray April 3, 1821; second, Mrs. Margaret Sinthy (Crocket) Massey, widow of William G. Massey, July 6, 1843. Tax collector of Lancaster District, 1837-44. S. C. Senate, Lancaster, 1844-48, 1852-54; died. Presidential elector, 1844, In S. C. Militia, acting colonel of 47th Regiment. Member of Tirzah Presbyterian Church; ruling elder for 20 years. Died at his home on Cane Creek April 23, 1854, in office as Senator; buried in Tirzah Presbyterian Churchyard, in
North Carolina, about one mile north of his home.

Thomas married Martha Linn McMurray, daughter of John McMurray and Sarah Harper, on 3 Apr 1821. (Martha Linn McMurray was born on 25 Nov 1803 in Cane Creek, Lancaster County, South Carolina and died on 14 Oct 1841 in Cane Creek, Lancaster County, South Carolina.)
