  General Notes:

1. Served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War
2. Enlisted in 1778 as a soldier with the North Carolina troops
3. Listed on the official rolls of the Daughters of the American Revolution as serving as a Private and Wagonmaster in the North Carolina Continental Line.
4. Moved to Warren County, North Carolina at age 11 (about 1767)
5. Moved to Heath Springs, SC about 1780 - 1785

Rawleigh Hammond is buried in the Hammond Cemetery near Heath Springs, SC, about 2 miles from Beaver Creek Baptist Church. His tombstone has the following inscription:

"When you see this remember me, A Soldier of the Revolutionary War for Liberty who departed this life the 24th August 1839, aged 83 years, 3 months, and 13 days. Rawleigh Hammond Senior, born in Fairfax County, Virginia. He made no profession but often expressed a satisfaction with evidence of hope after death. He was a provident and affectionate husband and father. A good citizen and respected by all who knew him. He died suddenly at one minutes warning, leaving a numerous family of descendants who mourn his departure."

Rawleigh married Mary Grissell Burford, daughter of Phillip Burford and Mildred Terrell, on 7 Aug 1781 in Warren County, North Carolina. (Mary Grissell Burford was born on 21 Oct 1765 and died on 21 Aug 1823 in Kershaw County, South Carolina.)

Rawleigh next married Margaret Johnston on 15 Nov 1823 in Kershaw County, South Carolina.
