BIOGRAPHY
William Fleming Bailey, Senior, is recognized by the NationalSociety of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Application for theN.S.D.A.R., under National Number 462 469, (Computer Code Number Al3-039)was submitted by Maryline Cauthen Westenhaver in Auburn, Alabama. Theapplication was verified and approved January 5, 1976.

The proof that William Bailey was a Revolutionary soldier isestablished by a voucher # 1331, dated first of September 1784, for 31pounds and nine shillings in the North Carolina Archives showing he waspaid in Halifax District of which Warren County was a part, and this hasbeen accepted by N.S.D.A.R. Bute County had been divided in 1778, (ayear after William's marriage) into Warren and Franklin Counties.
A monument to William Fleming Bailey's Revolutionary Service andPatriotism stands with other Patriots monuments at Salem Cemetery inHeath Springs, Lancaster County, S.C., on Highway 521. A dedicationceremony was held in May 1976 for the Revolutionary Patriots of LancasterCounty at Salem Cemetery. William Bailey fought in Revolutionary battlesin the State of North Carolina. William's actual grave site is at theMackey/Walker Cemetery on Hoke Road off of MT. Carmel Campground Road.

In 1771 he was16 years of age or over and was living with his father, James Bailey, inBute (Warren) County, North Carolina which adjoins the Virginia line inthe eastern part of the state. He married Molley Sprunt in Bute Countyon 9 July 1777 (original marriage bond within N.C. Archives), served inthe Revolutionary War in the North Carolina Continental Line, andmigrated to Lancaster County, South Carolina shortly after the War andsettled on Cedar Creek.
Three hundred and thirty acres were surveyed for William Bailey onthe 3rd of January 1788. Situate in the District of Camden on the Drainsand Runs of Cedar Creek North East Side of the Catawba River boundingSouth West on said William Baileys & William Stevens Land, South West onWilliam Robinson's Land & Vacant Land, North West on Jon Simpson andIsaac Stewarts Land , North East on Bailey Flemings Land. On June 2nd1788, he paid seven pounds for the tract of land, witness by ThomasPinckney. Chimney and foundation remains of the Bailey home site can befound along Cedar Creek, on Walker Road which is between StoneboroRoad(Hwy. 522) and MT. Carmel Campground Road.
William Bailey, Sr. had a younger brother, Kanneday (or Cannaday)Bailey, Sr. who also came to Lancaster County before 1790. This isestablished in a land suit in Lancaster County in 1842.
His father-in-law, James Sprunt also migrated to Lancaster Countybefore 1790. James Sprunt's service as a Patriot has been accepted by theNational Society of Daughters of American Revolution (N.S.D.A.R.). onNational Number 462 469, also submitted by Maryline Cauthen Westenhaver.His patriotic service is shown by North Carolina voucher # 1787 issued atHalifax District on September 15, 1781. He bought land on Cedar Creek,Lancaster County in 1792, died in Kershaw County before August 23, 1806.Other daughters of James Sprunt were wives of Wm. Stevens, Joseph Graves& John Hood.

William Bailey, Sr. had 4 sons - the youngest (Kennerdy William)moved to Alabama after 1833 while the other 3 sons remained in LancasterCounty, each having a number of sons.
