William Hammond was born March 13, 1792, in Elbert County, Georgia. His father was named Job. His father Samuel moved to North Carolina, but how long before that period I do not know. In North Carolina Job took his wife Lucy Howard, who was the mother of WIlliam, after they had settled in Georgia. On April 9th, 1818 he took wife Francis Acker of Pendelton District, South Carolina, who was born in South Carolina April 21, 1800, the daughter of Peter and Susan Acker. Teh former was of Dutch extraction, the later the daughter of WIlliam Halbert and Elizabeth (his wife) from Virginia, of English extraction. Elizabeth's maiden name was Hill.
His father Job was of Welsh extraction by the maternal line, of the Jenkins, but by the paternal line English. My mother's name (Howard) is well known to be an English name of prominence, as well as Hammond.
William married Frances Acker, daughter of Peter Acker and Susan Halbert, on 9 Apr 1818. (Frances Acker was born on 21 Apr 1800 and died on 30 Sep 1828 in Whitfield County, Georgia.)
