General Notes:
She was baptized “Maria Johanna” and her family called her “Aunt Mary”. She used the name Irma on her paintings and other official documents. She was a painter of flowers who studied with Friederich Sturm. She was the teacher to the Austrian Archduchess Marie Theresa and traveled with her in Austria to paint flowers. ((New York Times August 24, 1895) She left her studio at 12 East Thirtieth Street in New York City in 1896 after living there for several years to move to Washington DC (New York Times, November 13, 1896 & December 8, 1897). She died in 1919 in Schrabatz. Irma is listed in the Ellis Island archives. She is listed as a US citizen that arrived in the US on October 7, 1895 aboard the ship “La Touraine”. Her occupation is listed as “painter”. She was traveling from France. This manifest includes 1 page. She never married and had no children
