He was a painter and painted the portraits of Teddy Roosevelt, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt and Kaiser Franz Joseph. An article in the March 14, 1910 edition of the New York Times <New York TImes articles\Painting Rockefeller.pdf> announces that he is coming to New York City aboard the “Amerika” from Hamburg to paint the portrait of John D. Rockefeller. He married Charlotte Walker on August 28, 1902 in Manhattan, New York. Charlotte was born in 1860 in Westfield, NJ to Robert T. Walker and Amanda Grant. Charlotte was a grand opera singer and soloist in the Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn, New York. She made her debut at the Academy of Music, as Elsa in “Lohengren”. (New York Times Obituary) She also performed at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1903. Mina was born in 1870 and died on May 28, 1938. They resided in Oberwolfsberg, Austria. (Letter R. Pilkington to Frances & Bob Poole, dated January 1974)
Eduard is listed in the Hamburger Passagierlisten, 1850-1934. He departed Hamburg on May 18, 1902 and sailed on the “Pretoria” to New York. He is listed as a single male, occupation painter. He is also listed as a married male, departing Hamburg on March 5, 1910.
Eduard is listed in the Ellis Island Archives. He departed from Hamburg and arrived in the US on March 14, 1910 aboard the ship “Amerika”. This record says that he is married, and his residence is in Totzenbach, (a village near Ollersbach, Ober-Wolfsbach) Austria. The record states that he had been in the US before, in 1902/1904 and that he is visiting his brother-in-law Walker in Stapleton, Staten Island, New York. He is described as being 5 foot 9 inches tall with light hair and blue eyes. His birthplace is listed as Torok Kanizsa, Hungary. This manifest is two pages long.
A Mrs. Edward Komlosy (Charlotte) is listed on the Ellis Island Archives. She departed from Antwep aboard the “SS Zeeland” and arrived in the US on December 20, 1909. She is listed as a US citizen, and her home address is listed as Stapleton, Staten Island, New York. The manifest is 2 pages long, but there is no information on the second page.
Charlotte Komlosy is also listed in the New York Passenger lists, 1820-1957. She departed Copenhagen aboard the “Frederik VIII” and arrived in New York City on May 23, 1916. Her birth location is listed as Elizabeth, New Jersey.
