He was baptized as “Albert Carl” on June 20, 1915 (two days after his parents died) at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Brooklyn, NY. His godmother is Anna Minkus a friend of his mother Mathilde. (Letter R. Pilkington) As an orphan, his Aunt Jenny brought him to live with relatives in Austria in September 1915. He returned to the USA in approximately 1931. He served in the US Army from 1936 to 1940.
