Samuel A. Marshall

  General Notes:

Immigrated from Ireland with his wife and small son, Robert. Their ship docked in Charleston, SC. After a long and difficult trip from Charleston, they came to what is now the Pleasant Hill section of Lancaster County, SC. The house that Sam Marshall built was made of unhewn logs. The logs had been cleared of bark an dleft in their natural round shape. This house was one and a half stories in height. The family lived in this house until it was possible to secure the lumber with which the house was weather boarded and ceiled. This house was standing until at least 1947. The house has since been demolished. It was built at near the (1999) address of 2869 South Potter Road in Lancaster County, SC.

• Note, 7 Dec 1853, Lancaster, Lancaster Co., SC. Notice appeared in the Lancaster Ledger newspaper, December 7, 1853.
"South Carolina, Lancaster District
By James H. Witherspoon, Esq, Ordinary for said District
Whereas, Robert Marshall has applied to me for Letters of Administration on all and singular the Goods and Chattels, Rights and Credits of Samuel A. Marshall, late of the District aforesaid, deceased.
THESE are, therefore, to cite and admonish all and singular, the kindred and creditors of the said deceased, to be and appear before me at our next Ordinary's Court for the said district, to be holden at Lancaster CourtHouse on the 19th day of December inst to show cause, if any, why the said administraton (sic) should not be granted.
Given under my hand and seal, this Fifth day of Dec'r in the year of our Lord one thousand eight-hundred and fifty three and in the the seventy-eight year of American Independence.
