  General Notes:

Martha Hammond Ballard is buried in the Hammond Cemetery with the following inscription on her tomb:

“Sacred to the memory of Martha Ballard, consort of Thomas Ballard and daughter of
Samuel B. Hammond and Nancy. She was born April 4, 1804 and departed this life
April 28th 1851. She never connected herself with any Christian Church, but often
expressed a hope beyond the grave. She was a kind and affectionate wife, mother
and relative. She left six children and many friends to mourn their loss. In the midst of
Life we are in death.”

Martha married Thomas Ballard Jr. on 25 Apr 1822. (Thomas Ballard Jr. was born in 1799 in Lancaster Co., SC.)
