Nancy Twitty Hammond is buried in the Hammond Cemetery near Heath Springs, SC. The inscription on her tombstone reads:
“Nancy Hammond, consort of Samuel B. Hammond, born in Warren County, North
Carolina, November 17th 1778, Departed this life October 8th 1853, aged 74 years
10 months and 21 days. She left a large number of children, grandchildren and great-
grandchildren and affectionate husband to mourn their loss. Also numerous friends who apprecited her many virtues. It was her great delight to relieve suffering humanity, cloth the naked and feed the hungry. A more affectionate mother never lived and died in the triumph of Christian Faith and a member of the Baptist Church.”
Nancy married Samuel Burford Hammond, son of Rawleigh Hammond and Mary Grissell Burford, in 1799. (Samuel Burford Hammond was born on 19 Oct 1782 in Warren County, North Carolina and died on 1 Dec 1857 in Kershaw County, South Carolina.)
