Francis Hammond is buried in the Hammond Cemetery with the following inscription on his tomb:
“Sacred to the memory of Francis Hammond, son of Samuel B. Hammond and Nancy
Hammond, who departed this life the 23rd September, 1839, aged 32 years, nine months and 13 days. He was born in Lancaster and died in Kershaw County, South Carolina. He was an affectionate father and husband, was respected by all who knew him. He has left loving wife and five small children, together with his parents seven brother and one sister to lament their irrepairable loss. About his last expression were his hope of happiness after death, and insisted in that feeble state to be baptized believing it to be the duty of all who believe in Christ.”
Francis married Mary Matilda Brewer on 21 Mar 1828. (Mary Matilda Brewer was born on 7 May 1809, died on 23 Apr 1882 in Kershaw Co., SC, USA and was buried in Beaver Creek Baptist Church.)
